I must admit I'm a bit of a Universal Studio's nut. I love the theming of the park, it has wide streets themed around a lake which sits in the centre of the park.
I know people dismiss Universal Studio's on the basis that they've visited MGM Studio's, but it is different. As you sort of pointed out there's rides and attractions for all ages.
For the youngsters there's Jimmy Neutron, The Barney show and Fievel's Playground among others. There's more high-octane rides such as The Mummy, as well as
street entertainment and shows such as the Blues Brothers.
I went to Universal Studios when I was a kid in California years and years ago and at the time I remember being pretty disappointed. I'm guessing it's gotten better by now.
Is the one in Orlando better?
Is this a good place to go with younger kids? It sounds like the Barney show and some of the other things you listed would make it a pretty good stop.
I think Universal is great... How old are your kids?
Well, by the time we get to Orlando and a visit to Universal Studios, my son will be six and my nephew will be five.
I see some of the kids' rides have no height requirements while others have a 40" height requirement. Both of these boys are over that, so I think we're okay. It actually looks like there's a lot for them to do there.
If my kids are tall enough they go on the ride. They don't easily get scared which is good.
Six and five is a great age. They'll love the Jaws ride, but will probably love Men in Black the most. I know my kids do.
Thanks for the tips on those Universal Studios' rides, theresa. I agree that five and six seems like a good age to start hitting the theme parks. Much earlier than that and they're really too young to enjoy it. My oldest does get a bit scared on rides that go high, but he's getting better at that.
There's a lot of useful information in this thread. Thanks to everyone for sharing this. I have found it very useful to help me with my decision as to what my agenda will be when I get to Orlando. Without any of this information, I would probably still be confused as to what to do when I get there.
Hypnotique
Hi,
I think I may have gotten the MGM Studios mixed up with the Universal Studios in an earlier post. After reading here I think I may have been talking about the same rides as you mention.
Bustour. Oh my goodness, when I was young I went to a theme park with my family. I didnt like high rides but my sister loved them. When we arrived at the park the first thing my parents made us do is ride a scary ride so that we could get it out of the way and whatever. But you know, now that I'm grown, I think they did it to laugh at us!
Anyhow, I will say that I have never grown out of my fear of scary rides that go high and really dont like to be up in the air at any rate.
So don't be too disappointed if you wind up with one kid that doesnt want to ride the high rides. It sometimes happens to us.
One ride I enjoyed a lot was the safari ride where you're on a train and not moving too fast and you get to look at all the wildlife. Some of it was animated but I didnt mind.
Is there anything educational / informative at Universal Studios, or is it all rides?
I'm interested in the background / history etc - rides are fun, but for me the theme doesn't matter. I'd like to go around on a tour if there is such a thing?
