I agree with you Jade. When I visit my choice would be no doubt to stay at a resort where it is on site and I would have a more pleasurable experience to remember for years to come. I would fork out as much money as I had to for this experience honestly. Also, it would definitely save travel time if you were to stay on site.

It's definately going to be more convenient and costly when you stay in the Disney Resorts. The cost is usually worth it to help prevent any extra stress in your vacation.

I am going to stay outside of the area during my upcoming trip so that I may be centrally located to some other entertaiment offerings.

I'm definately going to stay within the resort on my return visit to Orlando. I'm going to check on the discount packages that offer multi stay passes.

I'm going to take a few notes of what I want to see the next time I visit and work them in to a plan and do it in a cost effective manner. I'll need more planning for this than what I've been allowed for the trip I have currently scheduled.

You're making two trips? Lucky thing

I was considering staying in the resort for the start of the holiday, and moving out to an external hotel for the rest of it.

I was thinking of renting a Villa, but most of the villas seem huge and for two people, I think the cost may be close enough that a hotel might be easier.

    Still thinking about it though.

I'm pretty sure that if you stayed on-site in one of their hotels, that you could get one of their benefit packages. If you stayed at a nearby resort, you wouldn't get that certain package. I would look up the Disney website and see if you could find any deals concerning this.

I've stayed off campus numerous times. It seems that many places have shuttles that can bus you around to Disney (that was my experience).

if I was going to Disney again I would not economize, I'd stay in a resort, it's not good to go there with little money, as you will miss some very nice things.

Well it would depend whether or not I got a good deal like if Disney allowed residents to go to the park early or stay later than I would stay on a Disney resort but it would be determined by benefits and my plans.
