    Taxi Fare Estimator

As part of my 'rent a car or not' debate, I've been looking into taxi fares. I found an estimator - its for a specific taxi company, not sure how normal their fares are, but I hope they are the norm as they seem a lot cheaper than the taxi company I used in LA.

Orlando Airport Limousine, Towncar, Motorcoach, Passenger Van - Charter Rates

You can put in your own destinations, and they have a list of common pick up / drop off points too.

    Arrow Orlando Transportation

Most people are not aware that if you find the right company you can usually get private "unmetered" transportation by Luxury Sedan anywhere in and around Orlando for LESS than the cost of a taxi!

Besides you can reserve a car and driver ahead of time and have them pick you up at whatever time is convenient for you
and pay with credit card, travelers checks or cash and rest assured a driver will return to pick you up at the time you preschedule with them.

Ther are alot of NON-permitted taxis that operate in Orlando and Orange county so you might be riding in an uninsured unsafe vehicle...

This is very interesting. Thanks for the link! However, I doubt I will be pulling out my laptop and trying to find a wifi spot so that I could find out how much I should pay taxi driver. Although it is an excellent idea, it wasn't thought out that well. :P

I just used the Taxi Fare Estimator and I like it. I use it at home, put all the points of interest in it, and then write the estimated $$$ in my guide book. That way, I will know what to expect. And I don't think, I would use an unlicensed taxi service.

    Re: Taxi Fare Estimator

Hello eveyone! i was just surfing and came across this forum, just wanted to give you a little feedback, which might help....

According to the people at Mear's Transportation, I inquired about a recent limousine we took from Disney World resort to Port Canaveral and they said it would cost us $420 + the gratuity round trip (which I thought was high) so we started calling other limousine companies and to our surprise it was only about $360 to $380 round trip.

Customer service of most of the companies was Horrible, could not understand what they were saying (hardly spoke English) but we booked with A1 Elite Transportation from the list, very professional, courteous and the service was Timely. So we decided to use them for our statewide Florida travel.

The Taxi rides are sometimes cheaper if you are going short distance, but if you want to spoil yourself and arrive in style then private car service is the way to go, you pay a little more but you get class A service and they are pretty close to the Taxi fares.

Like they in the US and around the world "You get What You pay for" so very true when it comes to car service in Orlando.

Hey thanks TheTravelBrain. Do you do a bit of traveling yourself? Where else have you been? I'm just getting started traveling as my kids are now grown. So many places I have to see if I can. Friends of mine have just come back from orlando & they strongly recommended orlando trasportation. I think I'll try them & report back for everyone else.

Best fares I ever saw came from a gal named Robin who runs BUSY TRAVELOR 321 403 2295. She takes care of the military and we appreciate it. She took 4 of my men from orlando to patrick air base as they missed their original arrangements then took an IOU as 1 marine was short funds. He did get her a good credit card next day and all was well again. She takes my gangs in a 15 passenger to disney or port canaveral when we entertain here in florida. Hats off to Robin and Semper Fi to all

I don't know about non-permitted, but it's common in bigger cities like NY, Chicago, Boston, and LA to use "car services". Those are the black sedans, usually town cars, that have flat rate service from area to area.

I agree, they do cost less than a taxi, and are unmetered because they are not a taxi, but rather a car service. They can tell you what the fare is before you get in as well.

For example, we didn't want to leave our car at Port Canaveral for a week while we took a cruise, so we hired Town Car Now to pick up our family at our home, take us to the port, and then pick us up at the conclusion of the cruise. Our grand total? $175.

That can't be beat considering tolls, parking, and gas. Parking alone at the port would have run $120, plus tolls ($20 or so round trip), plus gas ($20 or so round trip). I didn't have to worry about my car at the port either.

The taxi quote I got was almost $350 for the round trip.

Definitely book ahead with the sedans since they don't sit at stands like taxis. Drivers are professional and the cars are far cleaner than taxis.
