It appears that Disney have had a re-think on some aspects of what was dubbed as Disney’s 5th theme park and originally dubbed as Disney’s Night Kingdom.

The information appears to have come from a series of surveys carried out by Microsoft and articles from Jim Hill among others.

From what I’ve read, Disney are still aiming to keep the aura of exclusivity of the park, only allowing a maximum of 2000 visitors at any one time in a similar vein to Seaworld’s Discovery Cove. The difference now being that the park will have four different admission slots, being morning, early afternoon, late afternoon and evening. Probably one of the main reasons that the Night Kingdom moniker had to be dropped. It will be interesting to see how Disney manage to get people to leave the park for each session.

There’s an outline of the questions asked in the survey in this thread. That gives an idea of the entertainment that the park may offer.

It seems the two ideas that were kicking around or rumored were the “Night Kingdom” and “Villains” theme parks. While I think both are interesting ideas, I think both ideas don’t work all too well by themselves. A Villains theme park sounds great but could end up just seeming like the ANTI-MAGIC KINGDOM or a SIX-FLAGS with DISNEY QUALITY HAUNTED HOUSES and THRILL RIDES. Definitely, idea friendly and hard to get wrong, but not especially great for children, and if dulled down, bad for adults as well…overall a concentration of things we’ve seen already. “Night Kingdom” or now, “Jungle Trek” is onto something with the specific Adult oriented Adventure theme, but it could be improved upon by focusing Disney imagineers on all things adult(I don’t mean porn).
For instance have the Disney imagineers take things/topics/adventures of adult interest and make them a theme park.
They closed PLEASURE ISLAND, but they could make PLEASURE ISLAND a land within “NIGHT KINGDOM,” same thing with “JUNGLE TREK” great idea for a land within “NIGHT KINGDOM,” and also the VILLIANS thing could make for a great adventure land within “Night Kingdom” especially with the growing interest/market for all things HALLOWEEN. For instance “A Night on Bald Mountain” would make for a fantastic DISNEY dark ride for adults, with material that’s a bit too intense for kids.
Or they can spread things around. For instance, PLEASURE ISLAND could be exclusively for Mardi-Gras style night life while additional THEMED clubs could be spread into different lands within “Night Kingdom.” Like throw a DISNEY themed GOTH club into the mix in the VILLAINS section and an ISLAND/TROPICAL club in the JUNGLE TREK section. Or a CRIME section based on GANGSTERS/ FILM NOIR and CRIME with BURLESQUE DANCERS, SPEAK EASY’s shoot out and Prvate Detectives.
You can even have a section on High Class fashion and luxury w/ a Fashion Week attraction based on fashion shows where adults can be run-way models in Paris with a super high fashion POP/DISCO Niteclub called VIP. Or something Sci-Fi and Physics in nature like a ride through a “BLACK HOLE” based on the movie and throw in a club that plays ELECTRO, TECHNO and SYNTHPOP. That may be a little too intense but you get the idea, the possibilities are endless. Just up the ante to ADULT in nature and theme but with DISNEY quality. Who wouldn’t pay?
